March 2015 Yarnbox
Material
- 2 beautiful skeins of Skeino Splendid in Peacock (I originally received Aqua, but traded for this multicolor beauty with another Yarnbox subbie).
- This is 60% silk and 40% Merino. It is a DK weight, 8-ply, and each skein is 275 yards and 100 grams, which make this box a total of 550 yards of the most vibrant colors I have ever worked with.
- One pair size 7 (4.5mm) circular needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
As you can probably tell from the name of this shawl, it was designed by Kristen Ashbaugh-Helmreich for a Downton Abbey Mystery KAL (Knit A-Long). Lady Mary’s Comfort Shawl was a extremely gratifying knit, and I pulled out my bamboo needles because the silk content makes the yarn slightly slippery. I started in May 2015 and finished sometimes in June, so I have been procrastinating a bit on updating my blog progress, see that now it is October already.

Work has been crazy nonstop the last few month, my project came to an end in July and my job nature made a transition into assisting other members’ projects and so I have been lazy in getting back on the computer to document my knitting adventure. But fret not! I have not stopped knitting! Still commuting a good 3 hours a day so I still have plenty of time to make beautiful things.
I started this shawl one day during lunch break and went to a patch of grass on campus and sat eating and knitting. It is a simple repeat of 9 idential sections as you can see below separated by the stitch markers. It is knitted top down so the number of stitches increases with every row.

For this pattern, there are options for easy and intermediate stitches, and I opted for the intermediate one to make it more intricate and also because it is more fun and challenging. After a few weeks of continuously working in the pattern, here are some progress shots (one of these are a shot taken on National Knitting In Public Day at my favorite pancake place):

After the completion, it went with me to attend Carrie and Ben’s wedding at the beginning of August in Oregon. (blog is coming later) I love love love the colors of this shawl, and it can be worn so many different ways. :)
