I often struggle between making projects with a pattern found on Ravelry or pattern from this book I got as a birthday present in 2014 from my lovely sister-in-law- Karen. I am a stickler for getting the exact same yarns instead of substituting different yarns for any given project (such as the Beret I made for Karen). However, sometimes, that’s just not possible for may different reasons such as the yarns used in the original pattern had long been discontinued, or more applicable to my case, the yarns are way out of my price range. In any case, substituting yarns are necessary at one point or another. This is one such incident. And I think it turned out pretty well!

This hood has been my commute buddy, a beloved and practical commute accessory because it keeps both my head and my neck warm for the early and cold morning when I’m waiting for a train or waiting to make connection to the bus terminal. I added a layer of fleece on the inside of the hood to make it extra warm. And I’m almost never without it on any given weekday ever since I finished this project. The entire hood scarf is made up with just moss stitch, so the knitting process is pretty mundane, which also made it a good commute knitting project. Since I spend almost 2 hours on the train everyday, I meet the occasional old lady who is also making the same commute who just happens to pull out her knitting project at the same time I pull out mine. We exchange polite smiles and then proceed to have conversation about our projects, yarns, and techniques. She will teased me about how slowly I’m progressing when this hood scarf was still on the needles. After I finished this project, on a random day when I boarded the train, the same old lady exclaimed “You finally finish it!” Hahaha. Ohh, the random connections we made with strangers. :)

ps. the Seahawks colors are totally accidental. I don’t get football.

<img decoding="async" loading="lazy" class="alignleft size-large wp-image-3332"
