Leaving this time around was still hard, but it was comparatively easier than the previous time. Somehow the thought of ‘the next time we see each other, we don’t have to be parted again’ sustained me through the dreadful 18-hour journey. Considering the alternative of Ri leaving rather than me, which is even more unbearable, I think I would rather be the one who is doing all the leaving.

Getting back to the routine of everyday life has been somewhat disappointing. I guess it is because I am merely biding time until I can go back again. It is not that life is not good here, my parents and family are here, good food are here, but Belka and Kiki are not here, and Ri frog is not here. I try to think positively about making an impact on the things that I do here, work wise. I try to set goals like applying for grad schools and fill my calendar with schedules so I won’t be bored. Doing all these, I just want to make time go by a little faster. Actually, most of all, I want to finish my project at work and be done with it. I’ve made some pretty good friends at lab, but all in all, it is not an environment that foster productivity or encourage healthy scientific curiosity. All the negativity aside, I shall be more grateful in all the things I have right now.

Sometimes things are even more precious when you know you don’t always get to have it. Such feelings are magnified when you don’t see the people that you love for months and months at a time. It is a good feeling, because then you don’t take things or people for granted. I stop arguing with my mom on things because I know we would not always have time together. Afternoon naps with Belka in my arms felt sweeter because I know I wouldn’t always have him there. I am nicer to Ri because I do not want to waste time on being angry or upset with him. Only if I can have this perspective ALL THE TIME! :)

ps.
