It has been a little over a week since we moved in to our beautiful home. The hours after work everyday have been a constant unpacking, organizing, and reorganizing everything. We have moved from a 696 square feet apartment to a 2-floor house just under 2400 square feet. On the first night we moved in, I was shouting Ri’s name from the bathroom and he couldn’t hear me because he was downstairs. HE COULDN’T HEAR ME. As you can imagine, in our tiny little sweet apartment, this has never happened before. We’ve always known where the other person is, if not in the bedroom, then he’s outside in the living room. And now, living in this house, there will be instances when he can’t hear me. This thought terrifies me a little, just a little. But other than that, everything is going well, we are almost done putting all the furniture together, almost all the appliances have been delivered (except the laundry machines). The hours after work have slowly begun to more knitting and watching the occasional movies.
Before we moved in, we selected 3 walls in our house to paint as accent walls. We wanted to start painting as soon as we got the keys, so Ri’s mom can rest a little easier if we let the paint breathe and ventilate more before we actually move in. This strategy didn’t end up working though, she still freaked out and let’s just say, there were some angry phone calls in the mix. Also, major thanks for Karen and Ed who let us borrow their painting equipment!
Pulte, our builder, provided some Sherwin Williams coupons and SW was also having a 40% off sale. After weeks of deliberation, we finally decided on the colors, and they will all be revealed here. The first wall we painted is in the living room/dining room. The color is called “Resolute Blue”, and it is a compromise color because I wanted to do deep naval blue and Ri wants a sky blue, so we decided on the middle. The painting strategy here is divide and conquer, due to his attention to details and extreme anal-ness, he is in charge of the borders and edges. Once he is done with the details, I come in and roller the whole blank wall in the middle, cuz I just don’t have the patience for stuff like edges. Here is Ri hard at work, and also I just want to point out, I painted too, I didn’t just stand on the side watching him work, but all the pictures are of him painting/working. :P

With all the walls we painted, we applied 2 coats with at least 4 hours apart from each coat as suggested by Sherwin Williams, the living room wall dry time was actually 1 week. After the living room, we moved over to the loft and started painting this chickie yellow happy color called “Daffodil”. It makes me happy every time I see it.

The final accent wall we did was the trickiest because it is a patterned wall in our bedroom. I went Pinterest crazy, and this is the most amount of girlie-ness that Ri can stomach while still being “our” bedroom. I LOVE IT! This color is called “Reflection Pool” and it’s a nice turquoise color. I did the marking with a level and pencil and after we both agreed the lines are straight, we proceeded to taping and painting. By the time we finish this wall, it was really late at night, you will see the photo of me sitting on the floor was taken at night, and the following photo was taken in daylight.

Finally, because we have leftover paints for almost all the colors, I took over the laundry room. Ri refused to help me because he thought I am just wasting time and energy, but I felt so bad throwing these paints away ( I know, we saved them, but seriously, the odds of us using them again beside from touch-ups is really low), I just had to do something with it. So this happened. LOL. It’s crazy, I know. But it makes me smile so that’s that.

Thanks for reading and go forth and paint to your heart’s desire!
